From Remembrance to Independence

This week, our students experienced the full emotional arc of Israel’s national holidays—moving from remembrance to celebration—while deepening their connection to the land, its people, and its story. In anticipation of Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day, students visited the Kastel and Kiryat Anavim Military Cemetery on Monday—reflecting on Israel’s history and honoring those who fell in its defense. The day concluded with a ceremony in Jerusalem commemorating Israel’s fallen lone soldiers.

The following day, students experienced a powerful Yom HaZikaron ceremony together with the Mosenson School. Students then visited Herzliya Military Cemetery and met with Barak Balva who shared the story of his brother, Omer Balva, a Muss alumnus who fell in battle in October 2023. Tuesday evening, as the country transitioned to Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, students joined thousands in celebrations at Ra’anana Park, marking the shift from remembrance to independence.

Wednesday was a day of joy as students celebrated Yom HaAtzmaut by way of an Israeli brunch and boat experience on the Mediterranean Sea, as well as time at the beach in Herzliya. The day concluded with a festive BBQ on campus.

The week concluded with a three-day tiyul  (trip) to the Galilee and Golan. While there, students hiked, kayaked, and had a blast at Aqua Kef water park, ending with a beautiful Shabbat experience in Sha’ar HaGolan.

Through these deeply meaningful and memorable experiences, our students continue to strengthen their connection to Israel, its people, and one another.
