Staying Safe with Pride, Joy, and Resilience

Even amid the difficult and complex situation in Israel at the moment, our students continue to show resilience, unity, and incredible spirit. There is something truly powerful about watching them choose joy, connection, and positivity during challenging times.

Last weekend, our spring students enjoyed a spiritually uplifting and joyful Friday night in the Holy City of Tzfat, dancing and exploring the town's alleys and byways. When the war began, we decided to bring the students back to Hod Hasharon on Shabbat morning. Since then, we have been on campus, staying close to home, like most Israelis.

Thankfully, we are privileged to live in a country with incredibly advanced technology and a defense system that prioritizes civilian safety, so we have been able to spend time outside, learn, exercise, and find privacy while still being safe and secure.

We began the week with meaningful Purim celebrations. Together, we read the Megillah, celebrated with a festive Purim party, and enjoyed a beautiful brunch on Monday morning. It was a special way to bring light and simcha into our community.

This week also marked the start of our much-anticipated Color War—Tel Aviv vs. Jerusalem. The energy on campus was absolutely electric. From “Minute to Win It” challenges to soccer, volleyball, and basketball games, from dancing and singing competitions to creative food challenges, the students threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and team pride. The ruach (spirit) and laughter were contagious, and it has been so much fun to watch their teamwork and leadership shine.

As part of the current security guidelines, students have been sleeping in the shelters, which in itself has become a unique bonding experience. They are supporting one another, staying positive, and approaching it all with maturity and strength.

The rest of the time, it has been safe for them to be around the campus, sitting in the sun, strolling, and even studying. There is a lot of downtime, but we are working to create a daily schedule of learning, fun, and relaxation. We have staff on campus at all times, and our school counselor is present if students want to talk. On Thursday afternoon, we had a beautiful and calming sound therapy session, giving everyone space to breathe, reset, and reflect.

Even in uncertain times, the sense of community here is strong. We continue to prioritize safety, meaningful experiences, and emotional support for every student. May we move forward toward quieter days, continued growth, and only good news.

We will, of course, keep you updated.
