Fall 2024: Welcoming Rosh Hashanah in Israel
As we prepare to welcome Rosh Hashanah here in Israel, we reflect on the lessons of our past, especially the profound impact of sinat chinam (baseless hatred) on our history, particularly regarding the destruction of the second Bet Hamikdash (Holy Temple). This Thursday in Jerusalem, we explored this important topic and encouraged everyone to consider how we can learn from these historical lessons. The concept of pure hatred is not lost on anyone after everything the Jewish community has gone through in the past year; therefore, the notion of being part of a community and taking a look inside to better ourselves is more relevant than ever.
As we enter these holy days, we are embracing the spirit of teshuva (repentance), not just for ourselves, but as a community. This season is an ideal time to commit to greater kindness toward one another, fostering an environment of support and understanding. Each small gesture and each word of encouragement can make a significant difference as we strive to build connections and heal any divisions. Now, more than ever, we learn how much stronger we are together.
During our time together in Ein Gedi over Shabbat, we will focus on these themes, encouraging the group to participate in acts of kindness that will resonate throughout the year. We hope to inspire them to take these lessons to heart and create a compassionate community as we approach Rosh Hashanah.
As we gather with our loved ones, may we enter this new year with open hearts, a commitment to uplift one another, and a vision for a sweeter, better, and quieter future.
Wishing you all a Shana Tova U'Metuka—may this season be filled with serenity, health, and kindness!
