Fall 2024: Week 3 in Israel
Our adventures this week began in Akko, where we spent last Shabbat and enjoyed a beautiful Yam L’Yam (Sea to Sea) opening ceremony on the Neve Yam beach in Atlit. After the ceremony, we headed to the Sachne and enjoyed its beautiful natural pools before we camped at Har Dvora—marking the official start of our intrepid journey across Israel.
On Monday, we embarked on a challenging 25-kilometer hike from Har Dvora through Har Tavor, reaching our next camping site in Kfar Kish. That evening, we gathered around a cozy bonfire to enjoy delicious s'mores, and create unforgettable memories with friends, madrichim, and teachers alike.
Tuesday brought more excitement as we continued our hike to Nahal Tavor, where we took a refreshing dip in the natural springs. Due to changes in the security situation, we had to adapt our plans. We embarked on a three-hour night hike to Sharona, our meeting point with the bus that took us back to campus, arriving at midnight—exhausted yet exhilarated by our unexpected adventure.
This trip provided us with profound insights into what it means to be in Israel during challenging times. We learned a new Hebrew word that resonates deeply with our experience: lizrom (to flow). This concept encourages us to embrace flexibility, spontaneity, and adaptability, allowing us to go along with situations without resistance or overthinking. Our Yam L’Yam experience truly exemplified this mindset.
On Wednesday, we recharged with some well-deserved rest and relaxation, enjoying time by the pool and a delicious falafel dinner. Thursday and Friday were dedicated to our studies, leading us into a an exciting open weekend with our family and friends. We are all very excited to get back to campus soon and see what next week has in store!
