Fall 2024: Week 1 in Israel
We’re delighted to report that our students have completed their first week of the fall semester at Muss and it has been a week full of discovery and connection!
Our students began their journey with an engaging blend of Israeli and general studies. In their Israeli studies classes, they’ve started exploring the rich tapestry of Israeli history, culture, and contemporary issues, while their general studies have provided a strong academic foundation for the semester ahead.
Alongside their academic endeavors, students have been getting to know each other and building new friendships. The beginning of the semester is always a time of adjustment, and it’s wonderful to see students forming connections that will support them throughout their time here.
The week also included several enriching tiyulim (field trips). The students visited Tel Gezer, where they explored ancient ruins and gained insights into the historical significance of the site. This hands-on experience helped bridge the gap between their classroom learning and the tangible remnants of history.
They also visited Hostages Square in Tel Aviv, where they listened to Idan Alexander's father speak about his son, a soldier who is currently being held hostage in Gaza. After his talk, they had time to walk around the square, absorbing the atmosphere and gaining a deeper understanding of the emotional weight carried by the community.
One of this week’s highlights was a trip to Jerusalem. Exploring the city’s iconic sites allowed students to experience its historical and spiritual significance firsthand. Walking through Jerusalem brought to life the city’s rich history and deepened their connection to their heritage.
In their studies, students are delving into the Bible, focusing on its foundational role in shaping Jewish identity and values. They are exploring how the teachings and stories from the Torah continue to be relevant in contemporary life, connecting ancient wisdom with modern experiences.
As we move forward into the semester, we’re excited about the growth and learning that lies ahead and are very appreciative to be here with these wonderful students, especially at this time.
