What’s the Difference?

I feel the difference in culture because pretty much everyone is Jewish, but Jewish is such a broad term. You can think of it as one religion but inside that religion there are many other, such as how religious you are in the sense of orthodox, or Conservative. They still are both Jewish and believe in the same god just have different ways of showing it.

Since my time being here, I have noticed that there are the bigger reasons that probably everyone would think of when they first hear this question “What is the Difference?”, like the language, food, culture. But it goes even deeper than that. To start off it is a lot warmer here than it is in Seattle. I like the warm weather in Israel because I can spend more time outside and or go to the beach, I got used to the weather fairly quick. Another difference is the beaches, the beaches feel more populated with people and the water is warmer and a lot more saltier. The heaviest meal of the day is lunch except for Friday. Meaning that for breakfast and dinner we get dairy meals like; pizza or pasta, and for lunch we get meat such as shawarma or different types of chicken. There is a lot more news about bombs and rockets being shot from the Gaza Strip, and attacks in the West Bank.

I think that the biggest change for me was the language, trying to understand the Israelis as well as learning Hebrew. It helps that in most of the restaurants they have English menus, but it is still challenging because the people working there don’t understand that much English. So it has been a little hard to adjust to that and learn little words in Hebrew to know how to order, but in the end I am happy I am doing this because then I get to try new food and learn Hebrew.
