In Israel, the people are not afraid to speak their minds.

I’ve been in Israel for three weeks so far on this amazing program and I am having the best time. Being away from home for this long can be very hard. At first I was overwhelmed but I adjusted fairly quickly because I found how connected I am with the land of Israel and the people. In Israel, the people are not afraid to speak their minds.
For example, if you’re in their way they don’t hesitate to let you know. Even though Israelis can seem rude and loud, they care for each other and are close with one another. Also, the food here is ten times better then at home. There is a variety of food you can get here, but falafel is a common option. In America, we are not in a constant state of fear of getting bombed or terrorist attacks. Over here, there are bomb shelters in every building, and it’s a normal thing to have rockets come. The community in Israel is more family like. You feel an instant connection to people. In America, kids don’t appreciate that they don’t have to go to the army. In Israel every 18 year old is required to enlist in the army. Over here, the safety is a lot better.
Even though there are rockets and missiles, kids that are 8 and 9 years old walk by themselves to school or the store. Over in America, you would never see a parent let their 8 or 9 year old kid walk around by themselves, unless they are Israeli living in America. When applying for college in Israel, the process doesn’t start until you’re 21 because Israelis have to serve in the army, while in America applying for a college is a big deal while you’re in high school. In my opinion, Israel is such an amazing country because even though its very young, there are so many successes.
