I am in love with this country!! I’m still in awe over the fact that I get to learn about things and visit the exact places where history occurred. It’s incredible. Our classroom is Israel and it makes each lesson that much more meaningful. For me the most memorable lesson we’ve had so far was the one on top of Masada. After spending the few days before talking about the history and what happened there it was surreal to actually stand where the zealots once stood and see how they lived. It was even more insane to think that 960 committed mass suicide in the exact spot we had class. Something about being in the exact spots where history was made makes each thing we learn about 10x more meaningful. It’s the coolest thing ever. From Masada the trips have not slowed down one bit and with each place we go more meaning is put the reason we have Israel as a Jewish state today. Having a country as your classroom also makes things so much more fun. Instead of sitting in a classroom and having a teacher lecture us on how the city of Gezer protected its city we had the opportunity to go to tel Gezer and stand in the ancient gates of the city and pretend that we were the ones that had to protect the city against its enemies. Not only that but how many people can say that they have had class were David and Goliath battled it out over King Saul. It’s an amazing experience. Since we go on so many trips I was expecting to dread the bus rides but surprisingly they haven’t been bad at all and have made my group grow closer because we’re spending so much time together on the bus. I even look forward to the bus on really tiring days because we can sleep. Overall having Israel were so much history took place as your classroom is surreal and I wouldn’t trade a minute I’ve spent learning here for anything else. Till next time, Sydney
