I’ve been on plenty of field trips in my life filled with fun excitement, and soon after the impact ends. Until Alexander Muss, I have never had to bring notes or books with me on one. One might think that education on a field trip may ruin the fun, yet Muss has changed my view on how learning while traveling helps to create incredible memories that will last forever. A living classroom is fantastic, it is much more lively than sitting down; I can explore and learn in a much more interactive way. I was in awe when I stepped into the water tunnels and felt with my own hands the genius idea that a king many years ago could have thought of. Having walked through the Hizkiyahu Tunnels, I fully understand the power that a living classroom can have. When I have been studying in class for many hours and later I travel to the place I learned about, it is mind boggling. To see the very structure that my ancestors constructed thousands of years ago furthers the impact in which the place had and the effect it will have on me later in my life. During my time here, Israel is my learning classroom. My travels all around this amazing country and what it has to offer will impact me for the rest of my life. Another way in which Israel is a learning classroom is a place which I can practice my Hebrew. Ever since I got here, I have been extremely interested with learning the language which lies behind my people and our history. Throughout the past couple of weeks, I have went to many restaurants and practiced with some of my friends on how to speak better Hebrew. I can now successfully say, after many fails and awkward looks, that I can order food in Hebrew! Learning the foundation of the language I am immersed in helps to better my experience by miles. Finally, the best way to learn in a living classroom is to appreciate the special moments around you. I have had a blast traveling yet living through the moments where I can sit back after a lesson and really take away that this country will be a home for the rest of my life.
