My favorite tiyul has to be yam le yam. The challenge the four day hike presented really showed me who I was and if I really put my mind to something I can do it with relative ease. The first part of the hike was really easy because it was a lot of normal walking but the longer it went on the normal stuff got harder and then we were at the “hour of hell”, though the name suggests it was hard it really wasn’t that bad. The campsite was a barren wasteland with trees in the back to go to the bathroom. My tent was sitting right on top of a permanent rock which was very uncomfortable for my hip. I slept surprisingly well even though my hip was very sore the next morning. We woke up and got breakfast and it was off to hiking again, the second day was really bad because it was all uphill or downhill so there was barely a place to catch our breath and take a break. We had lunch at a really beautiful spot overlooking a great view. We passed by Israel’s northern radio station, which was really important during the Israeli Lebanese wars. The second day continues by going uphill and downhill over and over again. The campsite was the best one because it had and actual toilet! I got lucky and there was no rocks under my tent so I slept really well that night, which was really good because the third day was the hardest. We woke up and immediately started our day with a giant downhill hike. We went swimming which was nice but it was very cold and I forgot a towel so I used a friend’s windbreaker jacket to dry myself off. The day continued with a lot of going in and out of water which made it very difficult. The campsite that day was really bad and felt like a Spartan camp. I slept ok but we did an activity where we would sit by ourselves and think about the trip or something else. When a herd of wild boars showed up and everyone ran back to the tents. The fourth, and final day started off earlier than all the other days but it was worth it. When we hiked a very easy hike but I got a really bad rash around my touchous which made it really hard. But when we got to the Kinneret we did a ceremony where we took a little thing of water from the Mediterranean Sea and we all carried it part of the way to the Kinneret, we poured it in and all rushed into the relaxing and the perfectly temperature water rushing up on us. That is why yam le yam is my favorite tiyul we’ve been on so far.
