For this blog post I was asked to explain a Tiyul that was meaningful and special for me. I have decided that this Tiyul was Yam le Yam or Sea to Sea. This Tiyul was by far the most, fun, memorable, and intense one that we have had so far. Not only was this Tiyul four days and three nights, but we were up and hiking for all of the daylight. Our journey began at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. Each day of hiking began bright and early in the morning. Wake up was usually at 5:45 so that we would start hiking at around 6:30 every day. After a couple of hours of hiking through beautiful scenery, we would stop for a lunch break. It was amazing to be able to hike all day, eat lunch and then hike again in such beautiful nature with all my friends. We would then have another couple of hours of hiking before we reached our next campsite. On some days there would be an ‘Hour of Hell’ where we would hike a mountain. Just straight up for the last hour of the hike. Most campsites were on the top of mountains because that way it is colder and has a nice breeze. Once we arrived we would have some of the best soup I have ever had in my life, stretch out, eat dinner, and chill. We would then get ready for bed and sleep in our tents under the start in sleeping bags. Although this sounds like just a normal, intense, hiking trip, it was not. It was very special in that we bonded a lot. You have to do something while hiking for 10+ hours a day. I would just talk to whoever was hiking behind or in front of me. I talked to so many people that I had not talked to for more than a minute or two this whole time that we have been in Israel. I had some really interesting conversations with people I had not talked to really and with my close friends. This trip bonded me very closely with my friends, while also making new close friends. As everyone was getting closer to new people our group dynamic changes. We all became closer and less divided. Our family came closer together and we respected everyone a lot more after getting to know more people. This trip also gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. To finally make it our final destination, the Kinneret was amazing. Having hikes 4 long days and 3 long, uncomfortable nights, finally making to not another campsite, but the final destination was amazing. It showed me that I could do much more than I thought I could if I just try my hardest and don’t give up so easily. This trip is going to be one to remember forever. This was the hardest hike and outdoor experience I have ever done. It feels amazing to say that I hiked across the width of Israel.
