This week was our first week at AMHSI, the plane ride was really long. I didn’t sleep on it at all so I was really tired for the week. The security on the plane was really slow so I was getting even more anxious for the trip. On the plane there was these really obnoxious girls who just stood next to me screaming for the majority of the trip. Once we got off the plane we met our madrachim and started getting ready for the ride over to the campus. I was one of the first ones unpacked because I do it for camp a lot. We had our orientation day where we were allowed to walk around town for a little bit. During that time my friends and I found a really good smoothie shop called Moshikos, my favorite is the strawberry, banana, and mango smoothie. The next day we started out Israel studies class in which we started talking about the Tanakh, starting with Abraham all the way to Joseph and the beginning of Exodus. We also went to this cool place called Tel Gezer. Tel Gezer is a place in Gezer where many old civilizations formed on top of it. I found how the people of many civilizations found ways to better defend the city, one of the ways was how they made their gates. They would make it one carriage big so civilians can get through while one chariot would get picked off by 4 spearmen being in little pockets. Another thing they did was that they made a underground tunnel to a water source so they didn’t have to leave the city. Today was Shabbat and it was very different from the ones back home. Here everything closes so that the town is not very busy and very quiet. Back home everything is still open and loud. We also had story time with Aubrey which was fun, he told us a story about the Bersheva and how you should always embrace what you are and what you have, unlike the archbishop from the story. This morning we learned about how when people are exposed to positive learning then they gain more out of it, Aubrey told us four different psychology tests where the people who were exposed to positive feedback for their job, this just made them feel better about themselves physically and mentally. My main goal is getting more friends which has happened.
