“I have no clue what the next 18 weeks hold for me, but I’m ready for the adventure… It’s wild to think that the next time I’ll be writing a blog, it will be from my dorm in Hod Hasharon.” These were the concluding sentences from my very first blog the week before I left the States. When I read these sentences, it’s a bittersweet feeling. I’m so grateful for this trip and amazing experience. I will always have this and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The bitter part is leaving my home here in Israel, my best friends, and my parents (my madrichim [counselors]).
I reached all of my goals and more on this trip. I learned about Israel and Zionism, did some hiking, swimming, and shopping. I was immersed in Israeli culture and truly did lead an Israeli life. I achieved feats I never thought possible. Being so busy every single day took its toll on me. Not having a moment to sit down and relax could get very frustrating, but I have learned the best time management and willpower I have ever had. There is no such thing as procrastination here or not doing your maximum effort. In addition to schoolwork, I have learned what it means to TRULY be a good friend. Living with 7 people in a room forces you to use your social skills and emotional intelligence 24/7. I know all of my roommates inside out and I can’t imagine not sharing a room with them anymore. It breaks my heart to think that one day I’m going to wake up with my family next to me, and the next day I’ll be alone in my room back in Boston. Not to mention that I’ll be absolutely freezing. I’m going to miss fresh squeezed pomegranates, falafel, burekas, rugelach, speaking Hebrew, interacting with the locals, and living in the Wohl dormitory. I hope that so many more people get to have the experience I have been blessed with. There is nothing like it.
Signing off for the last time from Hod Hasharon, Israel :( ,
