Although we have gone on many Tiyuls over the past two months I personally have found that the hike from Yam le Yam was the most personally amazing and very meaningful moment I’ve had on this program.
Although we have gone on many Tiyuls over the past two months I personally have found that the hike from Yam le Yam was the most personally amazing and very meaningful moment I’ve had on this program. We started the hike at the Mediterranean Sea and began our long journey to the Kinneret. On the first day we hiked over 13 miles through rivers, woods, and many large hills and mountains. We set up camp at an open area that was covered in rocks and everywhere you step to you could see either some crazy insect that you had could never even imagine or even worse a scorpion. This always had me on the lookout and kept me on edge throughout the whole night. It was hard to sleep but I managed because of the very long hike we had just had. On the second day we hiked less but it was much more difficult, this is because it was all very uphill and we went over many mountains. It was very tiring but it helped me bond a lot with the people around me. I talked to new people, I got closer with all my friends (partially because we all had that poop together in the woods), and I learned so much about the land in which my ancestors had left for thousands of years. The third day was very difficult because of how sore we were for the previous hikes. However this day was beyond beautiful, we saw so many amazing views that were all connected to our past. Once we finally reached the Kinneret it was probably one of the most meaningful moments of my life. After hiking all the way across Israel without showering we finally got to jump into the nice warm water. But it meant so much more than just washing off. It meant that we are actually completed one of the hardest hikes you can do in Israel. And that fell absolutely amazing to know that I had done something that’s so many other Jewish people in the past have done. This experience brought me so much closer to the people around me, and brought me much closer to Meital and Julia soon.
