Expectations

It’s three weeks before summer is over and I’m more ecstatic then ever compared to my classmates. I’ve always greeted the school year with an exceptional hatred comparable to Batman and the Joker, but now it’s different. The choice to enroll into the AMHSI Fellowship program of Greater Miami was particularly a risk for me because of the unique classes and program that I am apart of at my school. I thought it was nearly impossible for the HSI to work out my classes with my school and ultimately make it possible for me to go. For that, I am extremely grateful for the staff at my school and the staff at AMHSI for investing their time in me to let me have this amazing experience.
The main reason why I applied to this program was because my dad did when he was my age. He said it was life changing for him and he emphasized that it changed his life for the better. I soon realized that everyone that has attended HSI had the same reason. With that in mind, I wanted to see what they all were talking about. Hopefully by the end of this program, I want to see a significant growth in maturity and the ability to live alone and tackle problems on my own without the safety net my parents have provided me. I have also experienced this before at a program at University of Texas at Austin, but this will be the ultimate test since the duration of time being away is much longer than three weeks.
