Before coming to this program, at the HSI events in Miami, I heard all about the traveling we do. Now that I’ve been here for months already, I know it’s true. We travel about two to three times a week and we get to really see things all over the country. When we are on tiyulim and we see exactly where something happened while we learn about it, which makes it so much more memorable. It really helps to learn and experience Israeli history and culture. One of the best experiences for me was hiking Masada and learning there. The hike was challenging and we were all happy to reach the top, but that wasn’t the end of our day. After we reached the top, we spent hours walking around and learning about all of the history of the place. We learned about King Herod and the Roman attack. While we studied in one of the rooms, our teacher taught us about the education that was necessary when the Jews lived on Masada. We sat and studied just like Jewish children hundreds of years before us. This is something really special that you can’t just get at normal schools. I’m so happy to be here and I really love having the country of Israel as my classroom.
