Ever since I got to Israel many things have been different from the States and could only happen while you’re here in Israel. For example, one day I was heading to the mall with some friends like any normal day we would leave campus and get a cab, as soon as we got out and walked up to the mall there was a guard sitting at the entrance. The security guard asked us to open our bags for a quick check at first I was quite confused but then it became pretty normal as everyone was doing it. Another time we had to go through a metal detector which I thought was pretty awesome. Many malls or shopping centers I go to don’t have that type of security, but here I felt safe and it gave me a good sense of security. Adding on, one weekend we were staying at a nice hostel on Yom Kippur and after dinner we all walked on the street to go dancing at night and we saw many kids riding their bikes, walking and running around all having fun in the middle of the streets. This you don’t get to see much of in the States due to the fact that we don’t have a day where rarely any cars drive at a certain time, the highways and streets are mostly always filled. This was really enjoyable as we also got to walk and talk, not only just on the sidewalks but in the middle of the road, I felt as if we did fit in with everyone there. And that is why this is my favorite “Only in Israel moment.”  The last moment I have is when we go on hikes and see drawn or painted on rocks with cool map like pictures which I found pretty amazing. These tells us which ways to go or what is ahead of us. Even though it’s safe to have a map, being able to look at the rocks and know where you are is very different, As for living in a place where I can’t hike. All of these moments that can “Only happen in Israel” are newly introduced to me and exciting. I can’t wait to spend more time here and see what others occur!
