After a week in Poland there is nothing I wanted more than to be in Israel. We had a packed, emotionally draining, but meaningful 6 days. We visited two death camps, Majdanek and Auschwitz Birkenau. These two days hit the hardest, the size of the camps and the remains were absolutely devastating. Aside from this, we visited cemeteries, memorials, and other camps. Obviously these visits were not exactly fun, but I firmly believe that every Jewish person should go and be able to see that dark part of our history. It happened, and it still stands, and we must take advantage of it.
Aside from this, we still did have fun in Poland! We had a lot of long bus rides, which I really enjoyed. We also got to see beautiful buildings in the city of Krakow and Łodz. It was especially cool for me because I have never been to Europe! Even though they do not use Euros in Poland there is still a lot of culture that you don’t really see in the States or Israel!
All in all our short week in Poland was very cold, but it was something I will remember for my entire life, and something I would recommend to anyone.
