Cleaning our dorm was the first time it felt like I was truly leaving Israel and HSI. It was emotional to clean out my room with my roommates and knowing that it was our last dance party together. The day started out with going to plant trees. It was a nice “goodbye” (for now) to Israel. We ended the day by going to Jerusalem and seeing the Kotel, and eventually ending up on Ben Yehuda Street. We then made our way to the airport- which was the saddest bus ride of our two months. We listened to songs and sang on our way. Once in the airport, everything seemed so real. Saying goodbye to Benjy and Yossi was a challenge in itself. We then went through the bothersome airport processes, to then have to say goodbye to Yarden. Hugging her with tears in my eyes, I reluctantly had to let go. Boarding the plane and watching Israel from above as we flew away felt like saying goodbye to my second home. 12 Hours later, and we landed back in the United States. I was happy and excited to see my family and friends, and to be back in my bed, however I was crushed to see everyone leave. It was a very emotional 24 hours- but every step of the way reminded me of how amazing the past two months were for me and for everyone else.
