My experience of the holidays was completely different than what I’m used to at home. I got to spend it with my friends instead of my family. We got to participate in prayers and sessions which made it very meaningful. I got to meet so many new people that I already have so much in common with. In addition, we all fasted together which made it easier, they gave me support to continue fasting and get distracted throughout the day.
On Yom Kippur we went out to Hod HaSharon to experience the way Israelis celebrate the holiday, everyone was out in the street and the were no cars, and little kids were riding bikes and their family’s were talking. We sat in the middle of a very busy road and just took it all in. It was truly incredible, everyone was united and took this day for people who don’t even fast and respect each for everything to be closed. Its been a little frustrating to be in lock down and not be able to explore Israel because I feel like there is so much to see. At the same time when we get out it will give us a deeper appreciation of all the places we get to visit and get to learn about.
We have a lot of independence they allow us to go out and explore Hod Sharon to go the grocery stores, everyone is really nice. I have learned a lot about time management and how to manage time my time from, when it comes to friends, when I have to do school work, time to workout and when I have time for myself to just relax. Overall, I have learned a lot about the holidays and I’m very appreciative about everything I have learned over the time period I have been here.
