The week of chagim was honestly one of the best and most memorable weeks I have spent here. Which is ironic because back home I have never enjoyed the holidays as I’ve never truly connected to them. You can imagine my surprise then when I found myself enjoying them and learning more about myself and the religion.
Rosh HaShana was probably my favorite because I participated in one of the discussions with Mark Shinar (the head of school) and it was super interesting and informative. We had a talk in a “What Would You Do” format and it really made me think and learn in an intriguing way. I also did origami with Polly which was lots of fun. We made pomegranates and Shofars out of the paper! After Rosh HaShana came Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur was a bit harder for me as I’ve never fasted before and I was kind of worried about it. I also ended up getting a cold before Yom Kippur so I was even more scared to fast. Don’t worry, you don’t have to. I just thought it would be nice to try it, especially with a group of other kids who were also fasting. However, I didn’t need to worry because they gave us fun and meaningful activities to do that distracted me and before I knew it, it was already dinner time! I’m pretty proud of myself for fasting and involving myself in all the activities and talks because I gained so much from it. It was also a great feeling when the fast came to an end and we all had dinner together to break the fast. It’s definitely an experience I won’t forget. I’m excited to see what the weeks to come have to offer and make some more amazing memories with everyone!
