Hey! I’m Ruby and this year I’ve been fortunate enough to receive a fellowship to attend school in Israel! I’ve never been, however, since I was very little I was always so envious of my two older siblings who got to participate in the AMHSI program. My brother came back from his trip and gave me a chocolate bar that he’d purchased in Israel.

At the time, I had no idea of the significance of that chocolate. I bit into the mouthwatering candy and from there forward I knew I absolutely had to visit Israel for myself. Not only am I thrilled to try Israel’s delectable dairy products, I’ve been looking forward to eating falafel there as well. Falafel used to be my favorite food, and I would make it from scratch sporadically.

Partaking in a program like this will be enlightening and unforgettable, but I know it will also make me face some challenges. I believe I am very prepared for any difficulties I may encounter. For instance, home sickness; I’m very used to not living with a parent from time to time and have found my own coping mechanisms to deal with it. I am completely ready to embrace any obstacle in order to live this experience to the fullest. So Israel here I come!
