This program is a great way to experience a whole new culture...

Ever since I left the States and came here to Israel for this program, I hear this question a lot, why did you go study abroad? Now that I’m actually here and almost done with it, I have more answers than ever before.

First of all, it’s a great way to meet new people. I can definitely say that the people I have met in this program I will certainly never forget. They have made a lasting impact on my life and I have learned so much from them. I know that even after this program is over I will always keep in contact with them. Back home I sometimes struggle to make good friends quickly in new situations, but here that all changed. Everyone I met here was so kind and friendly and there was always an instant connection.

Going along with that, its great practice for college life. It’s more independent than a normal semester in high school, you get to live in dorms and be responsible for your own school work and grades. You get the chance to practice what it’s like to live with other people and be constantly surrounded by them. There won’t be anyone “standing behind you” making sure you’re doing your homework or studying for a test.

Secondly, this program is a great way to experience a whole new culture. Even for people who had visited the country before, this program showed them a whole different side of Israel. For many people though, this is their first time in Israel and they get to try new food, new music, and a new lifestyle. Living here in dorms and getting the chance to learn all about Israel’s history is really a once in a lifetime opportunity. You literally get to use Israel as your living classroom. You might learn about a certain place in history one day in class, then the net day you get to actually get to go there. You are able to see places the Israelites fought noble battles or you can go to an archaeological dig and sift through dirt to find artifacts. These are just some of the many reasons why studying abroad could be the best decision you could ever make.
