Today the date was February 22nd and we went to Masada and to the Dead Sea. This tiyul was one of my favorite tiyuls so far. Although Masada was very challenging, the feeling when I made it up there and saw the sunrise was amazing. I felt so accomplished and proud of myself that I woke up at 4 am and hiked up Masada. When we were at Masada, we learned very much about its history and all the people involved in making Masada what it is today. We learned about Yosef ben Matityahu, King Herod and how Masada is his desert fortress/palace, Wadis and water systems, and much more. The historical period of Masada was the Romans. My favorite part about Masada was yelling at the mountains and having the mountains “yell back to us.” When we heard the voices yell back to us which were the voices of the defenders of Masada, I felt so close to God and felt like I could hear all the people fighting to protect Masada. I was really shocked when I heard how loud the voices were and how they flowed. It really exceeded my expectations and I did not think I would hear something like that at all. I thought maybe I would hear a little echo. It was definitely one of the coolest things I’ve seen, heard and done in my life and I will never forget it.
