High School in Israel

Alexander Muss High School in Israel, known to most as AMHSI or just HSI, is a study abroad program in Israel for high school students.  This is a high school unlike any other, where education is imparted through experience and history is infused into everything you do.  While keeping up with classes from your home school and gaining important college preparatory skills, you will also be learning about Israel through first-hand experience.  In Israel, your "classroom" is the land itself as you travel to the places where history was made.

AMHSI is the only non-denominational, 8-week, English language academic experience for high school students that offers college credits.  Especially designed to help students gain a broader view of the world and develop a deep appreciation of history, international relations, geography and literature, AMHSI students will develop valuable new learning skills and perspectives that will help throughout high school and college-level academic demands.

8 WEEK ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE in Hod Hasharon

The 8 week session is Alexander Muss’ flagship program – and for good reason! It is a high school unlike any other, where college preparatory skills are gained and education is imparted through experience and history is infused into daily activities. In Israel, the “classroom” is the land itself, as you travel to the places where history was made. AMHSI participants learn about their heritage and about themselves and come back with a deeper understanding and awareness of who they are. While learning about Israel through first-hand experience and enjoying all Israel has to offer, students keep up with classes from their home schools. Highly qualified teachers, experienced in teaching all levels including AP and IB, are responsible for making sure that students complete their individual assignments sent by the home schools. As on all AMHSI sessions, participants can earn 6 college credits. In 8 short weeks friendships are made, bonds are forged and lives are transformed.

6 WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM

AMHSI offers 6 week summer sessions for individuals who want to experience Israel during the summer. AMHSI Summer participants don’t just get a tour guide – they get a passionate and expert teacher to lead and guide them chronologically through the history of Israel. The shorter summer sessions offer the same historical and cultural benefits as the 8-week program. Summer session participants are eligible to receive 6 college credits. Whether hiking where King Saul battled the Philistines or following in the footsteps of Ben Gurion, AMHSI Summer session participants learn in a classroom without walls, live 4000 years of history and love Israel in an adventure that is unlike any other. As in all AMHSI programs, summer participants experience history for themselves in an exciting and memorable way as they learn in a classroom, at a beach, atop a mountain, and all across Israel. Participants live in campus dorms and are encouraged to get a real “taste” of Israel at the nearby local restaurants, cafes and parks. Not only are students part of an AMHSI family, they become a part of a larger community. 

SEMESTER PROGRAM in the Negev

AMHSI is offering - for the first time - a full semester program! We are delighted to invite you to our new, in-depth, 4-month adventure in Israel, based at our brand new campus at the Eshel HaNassi youth village just outside Beersheva. The semester program has the same accreditation as our other programs and eligible students may also receive 6 college credits.

Experience the grandeur of the desert as you live in an ecologically friendly youth village where the dream of the desert blooming turns into reality. Be a Zionist pioneer on a student-run farm. Broadcast your own radio program on the student-run radio station. Do all this and more while staying in a brand new luxurious facility near the bustling capital of the Negev.

During the 4 month semester program participants will learn the AMHSI Core Curriculum with the added opportunities of learning Hebrew, experiencing a week of army basic training (Gadna), taking part in a 3 day hike across Israel from the Mediterranean Sea to the Sea of Galilee (Yam le Yam), and taking a significant trip to Poland where the message of the Holocaust is learned firsthand. Join us for the experience of a lifetime as we embark on a semester long journey into the history of the Jewish people.

AMHSI works closely with Jewish Summer Camps to provide customized camper programs, staff training seminars, board retreats, and other experiential programs in Israel. Community Education Programs

AMHSI serves as a resource for Jewish community institutions and schools wishing to enhance their own Israel education initiatives thereby helping to build a stronger relationship between their community and Israel. AMHSI is an important educational resource for community education groups and missions organized by external agencies. AMHSI can deliver an unparalleled opportunity for learners of all ages to explore our history and heritage in a variety of community based settings.

Adult Programs

Many adults have witnessed for themselves the power of AMHSI’s transformative learning experience as their children, grandchildren, neighbors and students have returned from their High School in Israel experience, understanding that they are links in the chain of our people.

Not surprisingly, adults throughout our communities have responded by wanting to attend AMHSI themselves and learn as much as they can about the history of our land and people and see what the AMHSI experience is all about.  Since they're not high school students, we created an adult trip which has been very successful and appealed to many parents of alumni who want to share in what their teens experienced. 

Unlike our teens who stay in dorms on our Hod HaSharon campus, the adults stay in 4-star hotels. Also unlike our teens, adults have neither tests to take nor papers to write!! You do, however, benefit from the same incredible AMHSI faculty and their unique interactive teaching methods. Experience all the excitement and enlightenment in this two week adventure - without the homework!
