Art Gallery Proceeds to Benefit AMHSI

AMHSI alumni and friends were invited to Blue Gallery's Fort Lauderdale location on Sunday May 6, 2012 to raise funds for AMHSI and help send more students to Israel.  Renowned Israeli artist David Schluss' amazing artwork was being showcased and guests had the opportunity to meet the artist himself.  The community showed tremendous support and recognition of AMHSI's unique and important mission.

Owners of the Blue Gallery have generously offered to donate a portion of all future purchases to AMHSI (with the below voucher).  Download the voucher, share it with friends, and visit Blue Gallery when you are next looking for contemporary art!                  For more information, gallery locations, and upcoming exhibitions, please visit bluefineart.com

Celebrating 40 Years to Ensure the Next 40

Over 100 people gathered in Miami Beach on Sunday evening, January 15th, for a fundraising event in honor of the 40th anniversary of Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI).  Alumni, dignitaries, board members, and philanthropists traveled from across the country and around the world to Miami, the birthplace of AMHSI, to raise money to sponsor students to attend the program.  Keynote speaker Professor Alan M. Dershowitz of Harvard University Law School spoke about the importance of AMHSI, the state of Israel, and the connection between the two.  Several members of the Miami-Dade school board, including Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, attended the event, showing their support for the longstanding academic program which continues to impact and educate students.

40 years ago, the Miami-Dade community sent the first session of students on this remarkable and unique program.  20,000 alumni later, it is an international organization educating students from all over North America, Europe, and Australia; South Florida, however, remains a stronghold, where AMHSI is considered a “rite of passage” by many.  Alumni spoke on Sunday evening about their AMHSI experiences, ranging from 17 year old Sabrina Yagman who attended this past summer, to Rabbi Lauren Berkun, who, even 23 years after attending, still credits many of her personal, academic, and professional accomplishments to her AMHSI experience.

Co-chairs of the 40th anniversary Joel Reinstein and Hannan Lis said: “After you hear the excitement and passion directly from alumni and the impact that High School in Israel has had, it’s obvious that we continue to achieve our goal – providing a path to Jewish identity, a connection to, and love for, Israel”.  Chairman of the Board Stephen Muss said: “We are giving education, building identity – things that shape a person’s life and stay with them forever. How many other gifts can last a lifetime?”

The dedication to ensure the next 40 years of this transformative study abroad program was apparent through the generosity of all attendees.  Donations to AMHSI to subsidize tuition will enable more students to benefit from the renowned AMHSI experience.  Throughout the 40th anniversary year, the organization hopes to host more events like this in communities with a strong AMHSI presence, bringing together the past and present to ensure the future.
